Men of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, Ondo State, have arrested no fewer than 150 suspected political thugs at Ita Awure/Efon Junction in the Efon Alaaye area of Ekiti State.

The suspects were reportedly heading towards Ado Ekiti as the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party were holding their primaries ahead of the forthcoming state governorship election.

A source said the hoodlums were arrested around 3am on Wednesday on their way to Ado Ekiti to allegedly disrupt the primary election process.

The source said, “They were arrested in Ita Awure by soldiers who were at a checkpoint on the road.

“Some items found in their vehicles are guns, machetes, charms and other weapons. All these weapons were concealed in the vehicles that conveyed them.”

The source also disclosed that after the arrest, the soldiers transported the suspects to Owena Barracks in Akure, the Ondo State capital, for further investigation.

The spokesperson for the brigade, Captain Akin Omojokun, confirmed the arrest, adding that the brigade would soon issue a statement on the incident.

Omojokun had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
